Been a long time

Lots of stuff has happened. The proof's in the wrapping paper strewn all over the floor.

Nana and papa visited from New Mexico, celebrated Thanksgiving here, ate turkey, bought presents, enjoyed the fireplace, read to their granddaughter.

Claire especially liked playing ball with the grandparents.

The presents came in waves. First, the late birthday gifts. Then, the early Christmas gifts. Heck, yesterday, she opened another gift from her other grandparents.

Fortunately, we adults get in on the gifts, too. Otherwise, they'd never come unwrapped.

Claire is motoring all over the place now in rapid fashion. She's so adept, it's almost as if she's always walked. Still doesn't seem like she should be walking at all. She stands less than two feet tall. She doesn't stomp. She falls on her rump easily with an "Umph." Her feet go pitter-patter-pitter-patter on our fir floors. But she practically runs now. The pets duck for cover. It's all over but the shouting.

Especially, when all the clothes come off....

Yes, nana and papa bought her this stroller and 14-inch doll. Claire saw it and immediately proceeded to roll it around the house for 20 minutes at a time. Here, she seems giddy, almost plastered, which she often does when she's allowed to run naked. But usually she's very serious when she pushes this thing. She keeps her head down, pushing steadily, focusing intently on the baby or the front wheels or some imaginary object directly in front of her path. It's a big responsibility.

Claire also experienced her first snow storm. You can't tell it's snowing from this picture?

Well, that's how it is in Portland. We celebrate winter a flake at a time, and that's what Claire and I did on our day off together Monday (Nana and papa stayed indoors? You think they're from the Southwest or something?).

Southwest? Right. At 6500 Ft. Elev. Not far enough south and west (Phoenix) to escape the subzero temps 3 nights last week and the 4 inches of drifted snow. Have you forgotten I, at least, was babysitting while you took leaves off the grass in the cold wind?
I was truly amazed by Claire's steering and maneuvering ability with the stroller, and no one showed her what to do--how to free the wheels from getting caught on the table and chairs. We've all had a lot of fun from an impulsive $5 buy at Walgreens.
We surely enjoyed every minute with our family. Claire is growing and learning everyday! Brent and Sarah gave us such good meals. Where's the picture of Sarah preparing that big bird? We miss you all and love the blog. Thanks for your continuing and faithful accounts. You're great parents. Nana H

I'm happy to see Moppet also got some grandparent love during the visit. Claire looks great. She's no baby anymore! MT

The Hansons will enjoy the new Claire. Bundle her well for the cold & snow in Moline--you'll probably have a white Christmas. What will Claire ;push around when she's in Illinois? You might have to take the stroller with you.
I wonder what new words she will learn at Brad & Betty's? The interior of their house provides a great chance to learn new terms. And, grandpa's work area will be stimulating as well.
Some time the Hansons & Marcia & I will have to get together in New Mexico.
