In the evening, Xia-Li stopped by to help celebrate.
She instructed Claire on the art of opening packages.
She guided her across the floor to her balloon.
She and Claire finished off the night with some french vanilla ice cream.
Claire loves ice cream, as I presume most babies do. She learned the sign for it within minutes of her first taste.
She also liked her candle and came precariously close to melding her finger to its flame.
Xia-Li taught her how to blow it out.
She made it through the evening with no signs of an ice-cream headache.
Not a bad first birthday.

She's precious! And everyone needs a big sister. MH
I see that meeting her a few months ago will soon mean less. She is growing up very fast, and I'm so glad there's a blog with her face all over it so I can see how she's progressing. Happy birthday! MT
MT, when are you moving to Portland? Actually we're planning another troup reunion in Phoenix in March. (Go Cubies!)
This little girl exhibits complete focus and absorption in new experiences. The sponge? Locke's tabula rasa theory? See you all in three days. We'll miss MT. MH
